An Uncertain Now. A Certain Then

Just because the calendar turns over to a new year does not mean that uncertainty is eliminated. But, from the impact of Christ’s first coming until His second coming, there are things of which we can be certain.

Philippians 2:12-18

Message Notes

1 Corinthians 9:23-25

I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

An Uncertain Now - Philippians 2:12-15

Our Present Life is Uncertain because of the Necessary Work– Philippians 2:12-13

Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Our Present Life is Uncertain because of this Perverse World- Philippians 2:14-15

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.

Immorality is just as bad now as it was in the past. The difference is that now we flaunt it. It used to be done in secret, but now it is done in the open.

– Dr. J. Vernon McGee

The Bible. Know it in your head. Stow it in your heart. Show it in your life. Sow it in the world.

– Dr. J. Vernon McGee

A Certain Then - Philippians 2:16-18

Our Future Life is Certain because of Christ’s Word and Power- Philippians 2:16

Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.

Our Future Life is Certain because of a Promised Joy – Philippians 2:17-18

But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy.

The way to dispel darkness is to admit light; the best way to deal with error is to present truth.

– Rev. Hudie Dillard

Christians have a race to run, a race of service and a race of suffering…  This race is set before them, it is marked out unto them, both by the word of God and the examples of faithful servants of God.

– Rev. Hudie Dillard

James 1:22-25

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
