At Christian Fellowship Church, we are all about living out our mission to glorify God by making disciples of all people. I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve heard those words, and it won’t be the last. We believe that seeking to be like Him and helping others do the same is the core of what it means to follow Jesus.
Perhaps as you read this you find yourself wanting to know what to do and how to do it. What is involved? What steps should I take? One of our staff members, Adam Christian, illustrates an example here:
It’s similar to when my five-year-old son who got a giant Lego castle for Christmas (which meant that I got to put together a giant Lego castle). When I first opened the box, it was a bit intimidating because there were 7 different bags containing over 1,000 Legos. On my own, I would be completely lost, but the great thing about Lego is that they include the most detailed, step-by-step instructions you have ever seen. I just had to follow the steps in order, putting each piece precisely where they indicated, and before long, the castle started to take shape.
This works great with Legos, but there are some significant differences between building a Lego castle and being a disciple of Jesus.
First, everyone is different, and that means that the processes that we follow to become more like Jesus will be different as well. One person’s steps will look a bit different than another person's steps, so that means there is no step-by-step instruction manual. Also, we never finish! We are always in the process of becoming more like Jesus, so there’s never a point where we can step back and look at the finished product. Instead, we constantly re-evaluate where we are and where we ought to be, and then we take the next step to become more like Jesus.
Even with that being said, there are still tools to help you. Last summer, we introduced CFC’s Discipleship Pathway. This tool will help you evaluate where you are, where you want to be, and the next step you ought to take to get there. For most of us, this is joining a small group or finding an opportunity to serve where we can use our gifts, passions, and talents to partner with God in His mission.
If you need a copy of the Discipleship Pathway, stop by The Center this weekend. While you’re there, take a minute to talk with us. We would love to get to know you better so we can help you identify that next step. If we need the time for a longer conversation, then we’d love to meet with you one on one.
We’re serious about our mission to glorify God by making disciples and are committed to walking the path with you. We hope you have a wonderful weekend, and we can’t wait to worship with you soon!
