David encourages us in this Psalm to look for ways to pray for the Lord’s protection, to commune with the Lord in our constant access to Him, and to be confident in the Lord’s present care and future eternal joy.
You Are God Alone
Psalm 16:1 (David’s Prayer)
Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.
• Lord, protect me from the world’s influences.
• Lord, protect me from physical dangers and illness.
• Lord, protect me from myself - arrogance, pride, self-deception.
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

2I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” 3 The godly people in the land are my true heroes! What a wonderful inheritance! 7I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. 9 No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.

A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
