As we approach the communion ceremony this weekend, I would like for you to join me by taking some prayerful time in reading Paul’s words to the Corinthians. Paul is reminding them, and us, of the prophetic realities surrounding the moments leading up to the death of our Lord. Consider David’s words in Psalm 41:7-9. They remind us that the events in the life of Jesus were not random interactions but serve a plan and purpose cast from eternity past.
As you read 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, pay particular attention to how flippantly and selfishly the Corinthian congregation approaches this ceremony. Paul has some strong words for us when it comes to honoring the blood and body of Christ.
So let us examine ourselves even before we arrive to see that we are giving the appropriate thoughts and respect to our Lord and His sacrifice. Let us close our time of contemplation with grateful hearts, giving thanks for the grace in which we stand.
