In His Image

Elder Notes

The events in Charlottesville, VA this past week have been nothing short of sickening. Any group can use the title Christian, but some who use that title don't speak for us. We mourn the senseless violence that took place there. And our hearts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those affected.
Politics should not play any part in how we feel about what took place. We should look to Scripture. God created human beings in His image, and thus all people share in divine dignity. (Genesis 1:26) There is no such thing as white supremacy. No race or ethnicity is greater or more valuable than another. We believe the gospel has the power to break down racial and ethnic barriers. (Galatians 3:28)  We condemn white supremacy and all groups, such as the KKK and Neo-Nazis that champion it. Racism must not be tolerated and must be spoken to at every level.
As a nation, we have a long way to go to rid ourselves of this kind of thinking. It starts with each one of us. As you finish reading this, please say a prayer asking God to heal our land.
