I. Course Description: The first in a two-semester course offers a broad survey of the history of Christianity from its beginnings to the present. The fall semester will cover the Apostolic period to the dawn of the Reformation. The spring semester will cover the Reformation to the present.

II. Course Objectives:

  • To offer an opportunity to discover the value and pleasure of examining the history of the Church.
  • To aid the student in learning the lessons of Church history, particularly as it relates to theological orthodoxy and the mission of the Church in the world.
  • To gain a respect for other points of view within Christianity and instill humility in thinking about our own beliefs.
  • To gain a greater perspective on the issues facing the church today by considering similar circumstances from Church history.

III. Course “Requirements”:

  • To enjoy reading the text, Church History in Plain Language, by Bruce Shelley.
  • To attend and mentally engage yourself in class regularly.
  • To complete any homework assignments, quizzes and tests.
  • To share what you are learning with others in your life.
